FAQ's
Kiln-dried firewood burns hotter, cleaner, and more efficiently than seasoned or unseasoned wood. With a moisture content of 20% or less, it produces less smoke, reduces creosote build-up in your chimney, and provides better heat output. It’s ready
to burn immediately, saving you time and effort, and it’s also better for the
environment and your stove or fireplace.
The “Ready to Burn” scheme, supported by DEFRA and introduced as part of The Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) Regulations 2020 in England, certifies that wood fuel producers and suppliers meet strict quality standards. These standards ensure that logs are ready for immediate use and have a moisture content of 20% or less—crucial for clean and efficient burning. You can view the full list of standards and further information by visiting https://woodsure.co.uk.
This rigorous certification process not only helps to reduce air pollution by promoting cleaner-burning fuel but also protects your appliance from the harmful effects of using wet or substandard wood. Choosing certified wood reflects our commitment to
sustainability and means you can trust that the logs you receive from us meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
At Waymark WoodFuels, sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We responsibly source wood from well-managed forests and ensure all our suppliers are Ready to Burn certified. By offering kiln-dried logs with low moisture content, we help reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and support cleaner air. Our commitment to sustainability provides long-term, renewable fuel solutions. We don’t supply oak as in our view, its slow growth makes it unsustainable, and its burn quality offers no significant advantage over other options.
How much wood you’ll need depends on the size of your stove or open fireplace, how often you use it, your storage availability, and the type of wood you burn. For example, during the winter months, a standard crate of birch should be sufficient for occasional evening and weekend fires, lasting up to about 6 weeks. However, if you’re using your fire more than this or it’s your primary heating source, we advise ordering a large crate. A large crate also offers the best value for money and can be a smart option even for occasional users if you have the space to store it through the winter months.
Store your logs in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated space. Keep them off the ground and, if outdoors, use a covered log store with open sides for airflow. Avoid airtight
containers or plastic coverings, as they can trap moisture. Proper storage keeps your logs dry and ready to burn efficiently.
